The Harvard Travel Assist program provides 24/7 medical and security support and evacuation services to eligible students, faculty, and staff. To expedite assistance, it's vital that you enter your itinerary in the Harvard Travel Registry before you leave.

Medical and Security Assistance

While abroad, eligible Harvard affiliates can contact Harvard Travel Assist for medical and security assistance at +1-617-998-0000 or The phone line is answered immediately; an email response may take four hours for urgent requests and 24 hours for non-urgent requests. If emailing with an emergency, include “Urgent” in your subject line. Case managers will advise you on your situation and work with us to connect you with appropriate resources.

Online Resources

The Harvard Travel Assist program also includes several country-specific online resources, including country profiles and email alerts, that may be helpful before you leave and while you’re away.

Eligibility Guidelines

In general, travel for University business and University-related activities is covered. Personal travel—including vacations or travel primarily to visit family—is not covered unless it is within seven days of an eligible trip.

Program Oversight

GSS manages the Harvard Travel Assist program, which includes services provided by The Anvil Group, a global security firm specializing in travel risk management and crisis avoidance, and Healix International, a leader in international medical, security, and travel assistance services. If you register your trip, sign up to receive travel alerts, or you contact Harvard Travel Assist regarding an incident, the communications you receive may come directly from Anvil or Healix.

The Harvard Travel Assist program provides access to medical, security, and travel assistance and insurance for emergency evacuations; it does not, however, provide health insurance coverage or travel agency services. Before you leave, check with your health insurance provider about your international coverage options.

Staff and faculty who need assistance booking general travel logistics, such as flights and hotels, can visit Harvard's Travel Services website for preferred agencies and discounts.

The Harvard Travel Registry and Harvard Travel Assist websites are maintained by our security partner, The Anvil Group. Country and region names may appear differently on their websites and in their reports. The information contained in The Anvil Group's properties is obtained from a variety of international governing bodies. The geographic names that appear are not necessarily endorsed by Harvard University.
