High Risk, Elevated Risk, and Watch List Countries and Regions

All international travel poses risks for which you should prepare, as outlined in the worldwide caution issued by the U.S. State Department. The countries and regions on the Harvard GSS Travel Risk Ratings List, however, pose the greatest risks for most Harvard travelers and correlate with the student travel policies.

Unrated Countries

For information about countries not rated above, you can view country-specific profiles on the International SOS member portal. International SOS assigns country risk levels independent of our ratings for Harvard travelers. You can also review travel advisories for every country on the U.S. State Department website, which also maintains its own advisory levels independent of our ratings for Harvard travelers.

Country and region names may appear differently on International SOS website properties, emails, and mobile app. The information contained in International SOS reports is obtained from a variety of international governing bodies. The geographic names that appear in those reports are not necessarily endorsed by Harvard University.
